Welcome Letter

Fisheries economics in times of troubled waters: pandemic, war and climate change meet the landing obligation, Brexit and blue growth.

We are excited to announce that the XXV Conference of the European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE-2023) will take place in Athens from 30th May to 1st June 2023 at Royal Olympic Hotel.

During the four years of absence of a conference in person, we have organised a shorter format on line (in 2021) and a hybrid workshop (in 2022). We have learnt a lot and both events have been a success, but we still consider that an in-person event is irreplaceable,
During the three days of our conference, a broad range of topics will be covered in scientific sessions in the form of oral presentations and poster sessions. And there will also be invited lectures from renowned researchers from different regions across Europe, each of them intricately connected to the conference.

The main objectives of this Conference are to promote discussion amongst researchers, managers, policymakers and other stakeholders and to provide a forum for the dissemination of recent advances in marine and inland aquatic living resources economics (capture fisheries and aquaculture) and management, including the covid-19 effects, circular economy, marine spatial planning and recreational fisheries. The conference also aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion about the energy transition on marine and inland living resources economics within the context of the Common Fishery Policy.
We hope that the EAFE 2023 conference brings together in its parallel sessions different experiences and expectations from all over Europe and the rest of the world, while offering many networking opportunities for new projects and publications.
